The Student Summit virtual sessions launched in November and were recorded for the
Northern CA WorkAbility I programs to use. The first session was kicked off by Jonathan Mooney speaking about “Positive Identity”. He shared with the students his journey growing up with a learning disability and the importance of self-advocacy. Jason “J-Mac” McElwain shared with the students the following week about his experience with the “World of Work”. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of two and shared his journey with us. We ended the virtual sessions with two former WorkAbility I graduates sharing their stories of life after high school. The two graduates shared how the WorkAbility I program impacted their career choices and set them on a successful path.
The Student Summit was formed in October 2020 to provide relevant topics for our students in special education. Jina Martelle and Rich Fujii created The Student Summit with the specific mission to provide tools and resources that can be shared directly with the students.
The Student Summit is focused on empowering students in three main areas –
1) Positive Identity, 2) World of Work, 3) Life After High School.
